Our Story
The research and development program of Kentucky Blue Corn started in the summer of 1989 under the direction of owner / CEO Thomas Jones. At the time Tom was working as a plant breeder in the seed corn industry. Through his work he learned a great deal about food grade corn and the type of genetics commercial end-users needed to make specific products like corn chips and tortillas. While interacting with companies inside the Non-GMO food corn industry the need for a blue corn hybrid was expressed. So with the idea of a new niche market Tom started a blue corn breeding program on his own farm. After many years of trial and error selecting the best genetics forward his first blue corn hybrid was ready to go commercial. It had a dark indigo blue color along with the food grade corn qualities necessary for end-user products.
